My Struggle
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 2 a year
ago, but believe to have suffered since my early
teens. I had my first panic attack at age
13...right after my parent's divorced. After the
divorce, my two sisters and I moved from one city
to another barely making the rent. My mother also
suffered from a mental illness that caused her,
and us to live on the edge. I've lived that way
ever since. Got pregnant at 19, got married. Had
two children by the time I was 22 and then my
husband left me at 23 leaving me with two babies,
no job, no money and without a car. My stepdad
supported us for awhile, but then took off and all
the men in my life did. My second marriage I
thought was perfect...but he too left me after 18
years of marriage, right after the kids graduated
from high school leaving us in poverty once again.
I have worked at the same job for 22 years and
have just left it due to a breakdown.....I look
back at my past and wonder how I got through?
When I Realized I Needed to Rally!
The breakdown and having to move in with my sister
finally broke the camel's back. I had lost
everything. Five years ago I tried to commit
suicide and was in and out of hospitals. The look
on my kid's faces when they came to visit was
heartbreaking, but nobody knew the pain I had
endured my whole life. I kept my feelings a secret
from everybody and just kept going. One day I
looked at my life, living with my sister, hating
my job for 22 years, I got the chance to get a
severance package. I had to leave both my
sister's house and my job. I have had enough.
What Worked For Me
I prayed and talked to my kid's everyday. I also
found a man that supports (not financially),
understands, and motivates me to better myself. He
is not the perfect man, he has problems of his own
but we really click.
The Progress I've made
I feel stronger, have more hope for the future.
I'm enrolled in school and want to be a member of
the medical field...helping my fellow man.
